Flashlights: What does “Cree” mean?

It seems most people online agree that Cree flashlights are the best, but for a long time I didn’t know what “Cree” meant. Was Cree a brand? Was it a feature? Well, if you’ve ever wondered the same thing, you’re in luck; here’s what “Cree” actually means.

Contrary to my first suspicions, Cree doesn’t refer to the flashlight itself, but to the LED being used inside the flashlight. Cree is a company that makes high output LEDs that are often utilized in flashlights. So the next time you see a flashlight that says “Fenix E40 LED Flashlight Cree,” you know that Fenix made that flashlight, but that the flashlight also uses an LED made by Cree.

As I stated earlier, people really like Cree. One of Cree’s benefits is that it offers superior materials and performance. Their LEDs really only improve on any given flashlight model. If you’ve never owned a Cree flashlight, give them a try! Here are a few Cree models we carry, but head on over to Blade HQ to browse more Cree flashlights.

  1. At first I thought also that Cree owns the flashlight itself. Hehe. Thanks for clarifying.
